“The Verne Goodwin Senior Center”

Verne Goodwin died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Sharp Hospital. Verne was the first Mira Mesa Town Council volunteer of the year in 1984, at which time the Town Council also established the MMTC/Verne Goodwin Scholarship fund. Verne was past chair of the Mira Mesa Community Planning Group, chair of the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve Citizen’s Advisory Committee, and almost single-handedly responsible for getting the Mira Mesa Senior Center built. Verne also managed the Senior Center for many years after its establishment. The Senior Center was named after Verne, and his name was added to the outside of the building. He will be missed. Here is an article on Verne published in February 1984.

The above history was taken from the Mira Mesa Town Council Volunteer of the Year page, by Jeff and Pam Stevens.
